Activation and Daily Performance Assurance Tests

Updated: Jul 25, 2025

Activation Tests allow you to test ISP or WAN link performance from a Bumblebee device. For test methodology, follow this document.

Activation Test RFC 2544 Report
Activation Tests RFC 2544 Report

There are two ways to run WAN link performance tests, on-demand Activation Tests and Daily Performance Assurance Tests. They are described below.

  1. On-demand Activation Performance Tests (RFC 2544)

    1. Login to the Bumblebee portal

    2. Click Internet NIDs

    3. Select one device, click Actions -> Start Activation Tests

    4. Select a peer region that is closest to your site, click Start Tests. Currently these are peer regions: North Virginia, Ohio, North California, Oregon, Spain, Paris & Mexico.

    5. The test takes a few minutes to complete. When the test is completed a message pops up to instruct you to retrieve the test report

    6. Select the device under test, click Actions -> Retrieve Activation Test Report

    7. View and download the test report.

  1. Daily Performance Assurance Tests and Long Term Storage of Results

In addition to conduct a full and on-demand Activation Performance Tests, you can also schedule a quick daily performance benchmark tests run at a specific time. These daily tests are non intrusive to affect the normal data bandwidth as you can schedule it to run at a time when there is no or little office traffic.

Further more these tests run as TCP traffic and lasts only 10 seconds, significantly shorter (comparing to 8 - 10 minutes full tests), however they are long enough to obtain the link performance.

Note the performance test results are stored on the Bumblebee platform for 3 years for you to observe the historical data. The chart is can be viewed at the Dashboard -> WAN Link Health page. Scroll down to the chart titled, "Daily Performance Assurance Test".
