Shared Data Pool Alerts & Throttling

Wireless service providers offer a shared data pool service where an enterprise shares its monthly data allowance among multiple branch sites for greater statistical efficiency.

Bumblebee Shared Data Pool Alerts & Throttling monitors this monthly data allowance. It alerts enterprise admins when usage exceeds a specified threshold and can optionally throttle throughput across all sites to prevent excessive cellular data costs.

The configuration steps are as follows:

Configuration Steps

Step 1. Create a Shared Data Pool

1. Login to the Bumblebee portal

2. Click Cellular WAN -> Shared Data Pool

3. Click Create

4. Fill up the pop up form. Some highlights are explained follows:

   1. For Data Reset Day field, enter a day between 1 and 30. This is the day of the month when the monthly data usage is reset to zero.

   2. For Alert when usage exceeds _% of quota field, check if you want be alerted when the monthly cellular data usage exceeds a certain threshold. Enter the threshold. For example, the data allowance is 10GB per month. If you like to be alerted when the usage reaches 75% threshold, that means an alert message is sent out when the data consumption reaches 7.5GB.

   3. For Enable data throttling to rate field, enter the data rate you like each site's throughput to be limited to. For example, enter 1 if you like each participating site's input and output throughput to be limited to 1Mbps.

5. Click Create

Step 2. Assign a Site to a Pool

1. Login to the Bumblebee portal

2. Click Cellular WAN -> Dashboard

3. Select one site from the dropdown menu

4. Select the site row, click Actions -> Assign Shared Data Pool

5. Select one data pool from the dropdown menu

6. Done

View Status and Stats

• Usage Exceeded At the Shared Data Pool page, check the column Usage Exceeded, true means it has exceeded.

• CPE Throttled At the Shared Data Pool page, check the column CPE Throttled, true means all participating sites are throttled if they failover to cellular. This status is also displayed at the Cellular WAN Dashboard page.
